If you’re a fan of Disney, there’s a pretty good chance that you’re familiar with many of the cartoons and TV shows that were popular in the 2000s. These shows may be some of your favorites, but there’s also a few that you might not be familiar with. Here’s a quick overview of some of the popular ones.
Lilo & Stitch
Lilo & Stitch is a 2002 Disney animated feature. This film explores the challenges of caring for a young child when the parents of the child have died in a car crash. It also shows Nani’s struggle to keep her job, her desire to provide for her younger sister, and her fear that she will be separated from her family.
Lilo & Stitch was originally pitched as a children’s book in 1985. Chris Sanders developed the idea, but it was too ambitious for a children’s book.
Girl Meets World
Girl Meets World is a sitcom on the Disney Channel. The show is a sequel to Boy Meets World, which aired on ABC between 1993 and 2000. It’s also part reboot.
Unlike the original, however, the series tackles more serious subjects. Specifically, the show is a coming-of-age story. This means that it deals with more mature issues like bullying and dating.
While the show is fun to watch, it also feels like it might have been a missed opportunity. In fact, it would have been a cultural icon for the kids of this generation if it had stuck with just one main storyline.
The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody On Deck
The Suite Life of Zack And Cody was a successful Disney show that aired in the 2000s. The series is based on the adventures of twin brothers Zack and Cody Martin. They spend time together on a cruise ship that visits various countries.
A spinoff of The Suite Life of Zack And Cody is The Suite Life on Deck. The show followed the same characters, but added new ones to the mix. For instance, there was a new love interest for Cody.
The Proud Family
The Proud Family from 2000s Disney shows is returning with a new season of episodes on Disney+. The show is being revived with a mix of original voices and new characters. There will also be special guest stars in upcoming episodes.
For those unfamiliar with The Prouds, they are the ditzy Proud family. Their mother is Trudy, and their father is Dr. Vincent Parker. They have a daughter named Penny. She is a 14-year-old girl who is trying to find her own identity.
Camp Rock
Camp Rock is a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie. Directed by Matthew Diamond, it follows a young girl named Mitchie Torres. She hopes to go to a summer music camp. While she’s there, she meets Shane Gray, who falls in love with her voice.
Demi Lovato plays the role of Mitchie. Although she’s a shy underdog, she proves to be an unlikely hero. At the end of the film, she triumphs over the mean girls of camp.
The Russos
If you watched Disney shows in the 2000s, chances are you’ve seen some of the Russo brothers. They are known for their big budget crowd pleasers. You can find their films on Netflix, or they have their own production company.
In fact, you might not even know it, but the brothers have directed two Marvel movies, two Avengers movies and two Captain America films. The brothers also produced Chris Hemsworth’s Netflix action film “Extraction”.
While you’re watching the new Netflix series, you might want to watch other movies and television series that the Russos have made. These include Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired on the Disney Channel from 2005 to 2009.
The first one, titled “Wizards of Waverly Place,” was a Disney Channel teen sitcom. It centered on a teenage wizard named Alex. His family has a business in Manhattan called the Waverly Sub Station. When his father gives up his powers after marrying a mortal woman, Alex must take over the family’s business and learn to harness his newly-acquired abilities.
In a Heartbeat
In a Heartbeat is one of Disney’s original TV shows. It was a half-hour series, which ran for 21 episodes over a single season. The show was inspired by real life EMT squads in the United States and Canada. Unlike other Disney Channel TV shows, the staff of the show was a combination of high school students from all over the country.
“In a Heartbeat” aired on the Disney Channel from August 2000 to March 2001. It was based on the real-life emergency medical services (EMS) program, Post 53, in Darien, Connecticut. There were two main characters, Val Lanier (Regan Pasternak) and Tyler Connell (Shawn Ashmore). These two teen volunteers serve as members of the EMT squad.
Flash Forward
The Walt Disney Company is not short on original TV shows and movies. However, it is still best known for its blockbuster animated films. While the Mouse House hasn’t had a blockbuster in quite some time, it has been churning out hits including the hit TV series “Frozen” and the hit feature film, “The Princess and the Frog”.
The Walt Disney Company is the king of the big screen, but a hefty chunk of its revenues is generated by its digital offerings. For instance, the company recently introduced a mobile app that allows users to play with the popular Disney Junior and Disney XD cartoons on the go. In addition to games and downloadable content, the app’s newest feature is a live stream of some of the network’s biggest stars.
The Even Stevens Movie
Even Stevens is a 2000s Disney show that aired on the Disney Channel for three seasons. It centered on the Stevens family’s clashing personalities. One of the siblings is Louis, a mischievous young boy who is always doing gross things. Another is Ren, the smart girl of the family.
In the show, the Stevens family lives in Sacramento, California. The matriarch of the family is Eileen, who is a successful Jewish American state senator. During one of the episodes, she narrowly lost her campaign for U.S. House of Representatives.
